Is Osama bin Laden really dead?
On May 1st, the president of the United States made a historical announcement regarding the death of the most wanted terrorist worldwide. US president Barack Obama announced in a live TV conference that Osama bin Laden was killed during a raid conducted by US forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan. There were no images with the body of bin Laden made public and the authorities say that Osama bin Laden was buried into the sea in less than 24 hours after his death.
Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks from 2001, for which Osama bin Laden was declared responsible, the terrorist born in Saudi Arabia became the number one on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List and Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List.
Since 2001 there were many rumors saying that bin Laden is dead, but none of them was confirmed by officials. Most speculations about his death were based on different medical conditions that he supposedly suffers from. The rumors about his poor health included lung failure, kidney problems, diabetes and Hepatitis C.
A reward of $25 million for any information that leads to the capture or death of Osama bin Laden was offered in 2001. On July 2007 the reward was doubled to $50 million to which Airline Pilots Association and Air Transport Association added another $2 million.
During all this time the US forces tried to capture or kill bin Laden. Each time there were some information regarding the whereabouts of bin Laden the US forces conducted a forceful action. Apparently in 2001 and 2007 two raids aiming for Osama bin Laden were very close to get him, but he managed to escape.
For it seems that the last mission conducted to eliminate the most wanted terrorist was a success. This is the only mission to capture or kill bin Laden to which the US President in office made a public statement announcing the result so probably Osama bin Laden is really dead.
